Mark Tessaro and Eric Chou gave their incredible airway didactic lecture that they presented at last year's AIUM and SAEM Meetings. This session covered basic and advanced applications of airway ultrasound, including normal airway anatomy, ETT size prediction in kids, US-guided surgical airways, aspiration risk assessment, and ETT confirmation.
We had a great session on developing an ultrasound program for undergraduate medical education. The panel included Dave Bahner, Dave Amponsah, John Pellerito, and Chris Fox.
We had a great meeting wrapping up the recent ACEP 2014 Scientific Assembly in Chicago. The panel included Chris Raio, Resa Lewiss, Alfredo Tirado, Tobias Kummer, Srikar Adhikari, and others from the ACEP US Section. We discussed everything ultrasound related that happened at the meeting, including the US management course, the Industry Roundtable and US Section meetings, the best research from the Research Forum, and all the latest ultrasound equipment from the show floor.
We had another great combined journal club with the SAEM Academy Of Emergency Ultrasound and reviewed the recent landmark NEJM article Ultrasonography Versus Computed Tomography For Suspected Nephrolithiasis.
We hosted our 1st combined journal club with SAEM's Academy of Emergency Ultrasound and reviewed 3 research articles applying an integrated ultrasound protocol to the dyspneic patient in the emergency department.
Thanks to our panel for a great discussion about certification of emergency physicians to perform ultrasound. This is an evolving and controversial topic, and we identified several key areas of focus and actions to take moving forward. We also reviewed of the recent ACEP consensus statement regarding external certification.
