We hosted our 1st combined journal club with SAEM's Academy of Emergency Ultrasound and reviewed 3 research articles applying an integrated ultrasound protocol to the dyspneic patient in the emergency department.

The first article we reviewed was Anderson et al., Am J Emerg Med. 2013 Aug;31(8):1208-14. Diagnosing heart failure among acutely dyspneic patients with cardiac, inferior vena cava, and lung ultrasonography.

The second article we reviewed was Pirozzi et al., Crit Ultrasound J. 2014 Apr 27;6(1):5. Immediate versus delayed integrated point-of-care-ultrasonography to manage acute dyspnea in the emergency department.

The third article we reviewed was Laursen et. al, Lancet Respir Med. 2014 Aug;2(8):638-46. Point-of-care ultrasonography in patients admitted with respiratory symptoms: a single-blind, randomized controlled trial.

We had a great panel, including Matt Fields and Srikar Adhikari, the current chair and research officer of AEUS, Matt Thompson, Anthony Dean, and Kenton Anderson, the author of the first article.

Unfortunately, we had recording issues during the meeting and only the third article review was recorded and is posted.
